Super Monday Week 37 SY24

SUPER MONDAY

A motivational and informational morning message from Superintendent Willis

Week 37 ~ May 6th, 2024

Super Monday Message

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Also, Happy May! I would like to share another poem. It has a fair number of lines, so I’ll limit my commentary. It’s called “It Couldn’t Be Done” and it was written by Edgar Albert Guest. It was written to have a slight musical pattern that makes it easier to commit to memory. In the first stanza the subject agrees to not doubt until the thing has been tried. In the second stanza the subject begins working “without any doubting”. In the third stanza the subject faces significant opposition, but resiliently preservers. Keep in mind that the doubting “somebody” or “thousands'' in the poem might be your own self doubt.

Somebody said that it couldn’t be done
      But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
      Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
      On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
      That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

Somebody scoffed: “Oh, you’ll never do that;
      At least no one ever has done it;”
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat
      And the first thing we knew he’d begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
      Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
      That couldn’t be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
      There are thousands to prophesy failure,
There are thousands to point out to you one by one,
      The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
      Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start in to sing as you tackle the thing
      That “cannot be done,” and you’ll do it.

You can do it in Week 37!

Super High Fives

Just a couple of the awesome recent accomplishments that need a big thank you.

  • A super high five to our teachers and principals. It’s national teacher appreciation week and we have some of the best in the business. They have been great this year and we appreciate all that they do. As a note: Circleville Elementary recognizes teachers next week to avoid distractions while finishing up testing.
  • A super high five to the softball team that finished up the season on Saturday in Duchesne. They played three games on Saturday as part of the state tournament. We thank our great seniors and coaches for a fun season.
