LEA Specific Educator Licenses

The purpose of an LEA-Specific Competency-Based license is to allow an LEA to grant a license to an individual with exceptional training or expertise to teach or work in the public schools and is valid only within that LEA under specific circumstances.

To be eligible to teach in a core subject, the individual must: • hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution; and • pass the appropriate Board-approved content knowledge test (Praxis II).

Core subjects are identified in CACTUS and include the following:

  • English
  • Reading or language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Foreign Language
  • Civics and Government
  • Fine Arts
  • History
  • Geography

Piute County School District has three employed with an LEA Specific License. All three have a college/university degree.

(1 FTE) Robert Thomas – Bachlors Degree in Physics, ABCTE Mathematics

  • Passed Praxis Exam For:   
    • Principals of Learning and Teaching
    • Earth Science Content Knowledge
    • Physical Science Content Knowledge
    • Mathematics Content Knowledge    

(1 FTE) Priscilla Morgan – Bachelors Degree in Business

  • Passed Praxis for Business Education

(.725 FTE) Hunter Tanner – Bachlors Degree in Agriculture Science

  • Passed Praxis For Elementary Education
  • Enrolling In APPEL-S Program for Special Education licensure
