1009 - Board Responsibilities
The president of the board shall preside at all meetings. He/she shall sign all warrants, contracts, or conveyances, notes, bonds, reports, and other instruments which have been ordered executed by the board or as provided by law. He/she shall perform such other duties as are usually assigned to the presiding officer.
The vice-president shall perform the duties of the president in the case of absence or disability of the president.
The Superintendent shall serve as a professional advisor to the board and chief executive officer for the school district.
The business administrator shall keep a journal of the board's proceedings, keep records and accounts for all district funds, have custody of all records, seal and papers not otherwise assigned, and assume such other duties assigned by the board or stipulated by law.
The business administrator shall have care and custody of all money belonging to the district and shall make disbursements upon warrants signed by the president and clerk. The treasurer shall sign all bonds and perform such other duties assigned by the board.
The primary function of the board is to establish policy. The execution of policies should then be the function of the superintendent and professional staff.
The items listed below constitute specific responsibilities of the Piute County Board of Education:
- Develop and enact policy to guide the Piute County School District.
- Approve or disapprove acts of the Superintendent in administering board policy and in directing the work of the school district.
- Appraise the results achieved through its policies, rules and regulations, standards, decisions and instructions.
- Budget adoptions and fiscal operation.
- Approval of school calendar.
- Approval of curriculum and curriculum changes.
- Establish graduation requirements and granting diplomas.
- Approval of accounts payable.
- Establish tax rates each year prior to June 22, and submit the proposed rate to the commissioners of the county in which the district is located.
