CIRCLEVILLE SCHOOL COMMUNITY COUNCIL

UNOFFICIAL MINUTES

September 24, 2020

5:30-6:30 pm

Circleville Elementary--Faculty Room

Present: Kathy Riddle, Kristi Westwood, Amber Barnson, Stacie Gass, Lisa Allan, and Jim Martin

1. Introductions were made.  
2. Jim Martin discussed the background and purpose of School Community Councils--they come from state law and are a way to give voice to the community in making decisions to benefit the school.  
3. Jim Martin handed out the Land Trust plan for the coming year, even though the header said 2019-20.  This year, we are focused on many of the same things we focused on last year--making sure that teachers have the program supplies they need for math,language arts, and science, supplementing our programs with online programs like IXL, funding a literacy specialist to work with our struggling readers, paying for school field trips so students increase their background and experiential knowledge, funding our character education program, funding math and science aides for struggling students, funding additional technology, and providing teachers additional classroom supply money.  There was a discussion by the SCC on whether the carryover from last year’s plan should be used to hire an additional paraprofessional.  This paraprofessional could be used to support some of the academic needs our students display from being out of school in the spring.  Jim will find out how much this carryover is and bring the information back to the SCC for discussion next time.  
4. We discussed some of our Circleville data.  The data sheet is attached to these minutes and shows how our students have performed on DIBELS and RISE.  It also shows our goals as per the Land Trust plan for the coming year.  
5. We discussed our plans for the year to continue growing academically.  There was some discussion about a Stallion Stomp and if this will happen this year around November.  There was also discussion about how our school might support students if we go back online.  Amber suggested that the approach be more uniform across grades and more time be spent with teachers.  SCC members wondered if the needs of teachers and classes related to the pandemic are being addressed--are there enough wipes, masks, etc.?  Jim will survey the teachers to find out.  
6. SCC decided on a schedule for meetings this school year.  We will meet the second Tuesday of every month starting October 27th at 5:30 pm.  Additional meeting dates include December 1 at 5:30 pm, January 26th at 5:30 pm, February 23rd at 5:30 pm, March 23rd at 5:30 pm, and April 27th at 5:30 pm.  
7. The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 pm.  

RISE RESULTS--PROFICIENCY

*A 5% increase is the goal set in the Land Trust plan.  It constitutes 4 additional students at proficiency.  

Some questions to consider:

• What contributed to the large gain from 2017 to 2018 in ELA?
• What did we do in science last year that led to such results?
